Making a Difference

Double vision: CompHealth teams honor eye doc and support community by giving glasses

aterry.jpgOver the past ten years, CompHealth locum tenens’ general surgery team has formed a close bond with Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) in Harlan, KY.

“Some of the sweetest people on the planet live and work there and have personally made a difference in my life just by their interactions with me, especially my contact Sharon,” says Alissa Terry, client representative.

So when Alissa noticed that Sharon was down one day, she asked if everything was alright. As it turns out, ARH’s ophthalmologist of more than 40 years, Dr. Bryson, had unexpectedly passed away due to complications from the flu.

“My heart felt for them,” says Alissa. “He made a huge impact on their community. He was so compassionate and generous that he would help his patients who couldn’t afford their lenses and would buy pairs for them.”

Alissa and her teammates joined forces with other CompHealth teams to keep Dr. Bryson’s spirit alive in Harlan by donating both used and purchased eye glasses to the facility. In all, they donated 33 pairs.

“I know you must be the sweetest person alive,” wrote Sharon in an email to Alissa. “Thanks so much for the glasses. I know we are in your prayers and thoughts.”
