Members of Patty’s Pit Crew, a team made up of CompHealth allied health staffing¬†employees, participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Grand Rapids, Mich.,¬†on Saturday and¬†raised more than $1,600. The team was listed among the top 10 teams/companies in fundraising efforts.
Patty’s Pit Crew was originally formed to support Patty Johnson, a former coworker who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2010. Team members continue to participate in the event in her honor.
“We enjoyed walking for awareness for survivors, those currently battling cancer and those whose memories coincide as warriors of their own breast cancer battles,” says Kelly VerHage, team captain and manager of administration at CompHealth allied health staffing.
Patty’s husband, Bob, brought the baseball cap¬†Patty wore during previous walks to the Grand Rapids office for the team to carry during the event so Patty could be there in spirit.
“The team made good on that promise,” Kelly shares. “Patty’s hat traveled the 5K course, enjoying the sunshine and cheering us on, and it was included in the team photo.”
Patty’s daughter, Susie Boler, was grateful to the CompHealth allied team for its support during the walk and wrote the following in an email:
“The fact that you are not letting my mom fade away just leaves me speechless and in awe at how you and all the wonderful people at CompHealth felt about her,” Susie shares. “Things like this help to remind me how much she was loved by others also. Thank you for walking for her!”
