On a sunny Saturday in September, 40 CHG employees and their family members — including the furry kind — laced up their sneakers and raced to raise money for fellow employees in need.
The event, Employee Compassion Fund 5K, is in its second year and was once again hosted by CHG's Running People First Employee Network Group. "What I love about this event is that it's all about helping each other and gaining some additional money for the Employee Compassion Fund," says Steve Gingrich, event co-organizer and director of marketing for Weatherby Healthcare.
CHG's Employee Compassion Fund is just one way that employees take care of our own. The fund, which is fully funded by employees, provides need-based grants to fellow staff facing financial hardship. This year's 5K raised $500, all of which was donated to the Compassion Fund. Through employee donations and events like this 5K, we have helped 15 families in need this year, awarding nearly $20,000 from the Compassion Fund.
"Everyone seems to have a great time, whether they are trying to run a fast time or just enjoying a morning walk with each other," Steve says.
"I love that our team can get together outside of the office to help other employees," says Anne Hopkins, a benefits manager who participated in the event this year with her daughters and CHG team. "It's a win-win!"
